According to reports from Amar Ujala, doctors at the hospital proposed a method known as gallows traction to treat Zikra’s fracture. This technique is often employed for treating thigh bone fractures in children under two years of age. However, Zikra had different plans. She adamantly refused treatment, presenting her parents with a unique challenge.
Undeterred, Zikra’s parents brainstormed an inventive solution. They decided to introduce Zikra’s cherished doll, Pari, to the hospital environment, hoping to comfort and calm their restless daughter.
“Even at home, she is always moving from one place to another, and it’s impossible to make her sit down for five minutes. On the first day at the hospital, she wasn’t ready to lie down on the bed. She kept moving, and doctors asked us to keep her legs straight for proper alignment. Then I asked my husband to get her favorite doll to the hospital. We just thought of putting Pari in the same position as Zikra – and it worked,” explained her mother, Fareen, to Indian Express.
The results were nothing short of miraculous. The moment Zikra laid her eyes on her beloved Pari, her spirits lifted. Her mother recounts, “She was happy as soon as she saw the doll.”
In an extraordinary display of empathy, the doctors first “treated” Pari, casting the doll’s legs, which soon won over Zikra’s trust. After this creative act of medical play, they proceeded to treat Zikra’s fracture with the young patient now feeling at ease.
Today, bed number 16 of the orthopedic block is occupied by the inseparable duo. The heartwarming friendship between Zikra and her doll has become the talk of the hospital ward. Zikra, affectionately known as the “gudiya waali bachi” or “the girl with the doll,” is expected to make a full recovery within another week.
