Murder Mystery 3: Will It Happen? Everything We Know

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston Murder Mystery 2

Murder Mystery 3 would transform Netflix’s Murder Mystery franchise, led by Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, into a full-fledged trilogy. The Murder Mystery films follow police officer Nick Spitz (Sandler) and his wife, hairstylist Audrey Spitz (Aniston), as they navigate unexpected murder investigations while on vacation. While the franchise is rooted in the mystery genre, Sandler’s signature comedic style gives it a unique flair. The duo’s on-screen chemistry, previously seen in Just Go With It (2011), remains a key highlight of the series.

The first Murder Mystery premiered on Netflix in 2019 and quickly became a massive hit, garnering 30.9 million household views within its first 72 hours (via Variety). The film follows Nick and Audrey as their European vacation turns into a high-stakes murder investigation. Murder Mystery 2 (2023) picks up a few months later, with the couple attending their friend Maharajah Vikram’s (Adeel Akhtar) wedding, only to find themselves entangled in yet another crime. Despite the success of the first two films, there has been little official information about Murder Mystery 3, including confirmation of its development.

Murder Mystery 3 Latest News

Updates on Murder Mystery 3 have been sparse. The most recent mention came in April 2023 when Sandler and Aniston, while promoting the second film, shared some ideas for a possible third installment. “We’re gonna be married in the third. That’s all we got so far,” Sandler joked, adding, “We still love each other, or is it a weird thing?” Since then, no substantial news has emerged regarding a third installment on Netflix.

However, the lack of updates doesn’t necessarily mean bad news. Sandler has been involved in multiple projects, including You’re So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah (2023), while Aniston has been busy with another successful season of The Morning Show. Additionally, the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes may have delayed development. Even without the strikes, Murder Mystery 3 may not have been a top priority for either Sandler or Aniston at the moment.

Murder Mystery 3 Is Not Confirmed

As of now, Murder Mystery 3 has not been officially confirmed by Netflix or Happy Madison Productions. Given the success of the franchise, if Murder Mystery 2 performed well, a third film would seem like an obvious next step. Sandler has maintained a strong partnership with Netflix, with nearly all his films since The Ridiculous 6 (2015) premiering on the platform. If Sandler wishes to continue the franchise, Netflix would likely be eager to support it.

Murder Mystery 3 Cast: Who Will Return?

If Murder Mystery 3 happens, Sandler and Aniston are almost guaranteed to reprise their roles, as their dynamic is central to the series. Several supporting characters who survived both films could also return, including Inspector de la Croix (Dany Boon), Colonel Ulenga (John Kani), and the Maharajah (Adeel Akhtar).

Characters introduced in Murder Mystery 2 might also reappear, whether as allies or adversaries. Saira Govindan (Kuhoo Verma), revealed as the villain in the second film, had an ambiguous ending. While Claudette (Mélanie Laurent) knocks her out, her fate remains unclear. She could return in Murder Mystery 3, either as the main antagonist or an unexpected ally to Nick and Audrey. Claudette herself could also make a comeback, particularly if the Maharajah is involved again. Laurent’s inclusion would add depth to the supporting cast and further bolster the film’s star power.

Although no official confirmation has been made, Murder Mystery 3 seems like a strong possibility given Netflix’s history with Sandler-led productions and the franchise’s success. If the stars align and scheduling conflicts are resolved, fans may soon get another installment of Nick and Audrey Spitz’s crime-solving adventures. Until then, audiences will have to wait for an official announcement from Netflix or Happy Madison Productions.
