Among the deadliest shark attacks in history, Shirley Ann Durdin must be mentioned.

Mother-of-four Shirley, 33, and her family vacationed in Australia’s Peake Bay in 1985 and were attacked by a great white while swimming in shallow water.

The great white shark, believed to be up to 6m long, bit Shirley in half right in front of the victim’s husband and children.

The great white shark attacked the victims and was then caught by the fishermen.

Between July 1 and July 12, 1916, four people were killed and one injured in a shark attack along the coast of New Jersey in the United States.

The first attack occurred when 25-year-old tourist Charles Epting Vansant was taking a dip on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

Only Joseph Dunn, 14, survived the horrific attack.

The area around Réunion Island is one of the most shark-infested in the world, with a total of 27 fatal attacks and 56 shark encounters since 1913.

The groom was killed by a shark on his honeymoon

In August 2011, newlyweds Ian Redmond and Gemma Houghton went to Seychelles for their honeymoon and decided to snorkel.

They were reassured that there were no sharks in the area, but as Ian was swimming in the shallows off Anse Lazio beach, he was attacked by a shark.
